Friday Eve Chat: The State of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity in Craft Beer
In 2020, we are committed to expanding community engagement in a way that is meaningful, impactful, and authentic. To that end, the first Thursday of each month we will be introducing a Friday Eve chat on various topics of importance.
The first conversation will be a panel discussion on the topics of diversity, inclusion, and equity in craft beer. While this has been a central topic locally, in reality, it has been an issue in the industry long before we opened our doors.
For the first chat, we’ll bring together an influential and diverse panel to discuss diversity, inclusion, and equity from their various viewpoints from within the industry.
– Harry Weaver, Founder of the Brewz Brothaz podcast
– Eric Plata, Head Brewer at DeHops Brewing Company
– Jasmine Hairston, Program Specialist at Eastern Michigan University and Beertender at EMBC
– Rachel Szlaga, Owner of Brewery Faisan
– Sasha Womble, Member of the Brewz Brothaz podcast
After the panel discussion, we’ll open the floor to all attendees to ask questions, offer viewpoints, and come together to move these issues forward. Change starts with open dialogue and mutual respect. Come with an open mind!
Friday Eve Chats are a monthly conversation series that are part of Eastern Market Brewing Co. and Ferndale Project’s 2020 community engagement and charitable giving efforts. Conversations take place on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30pm and focus on topics important to that quarter’s charitable focus. The first half of the year will focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the craft beer industry and beyond. Save the date for each third Thursday of each month.
